Bookkeepers

Bookkeeping is the recording of the financial transactions of a business. A bookkeeper is someone who keeps track of an organization's financial transactions on a day to day basis to ensure the records are complete. Bookkeepers can work in small businesses or large companies.

In small companies, bookkeepers and bookkeeping clerks perform a broad range of duties that includes recording all transactions, handling payroll, and preparing bank deposits.

In large companies, bookkeepers usually work in a more specialized area and more often have titles like accounting clerk, auditing clerk and other more duty-specific titles like accounts payable clerk or accounts receivable clerk.

A high school diploma, relevant work experience and/or some accounting coursework are required by most employers for the profession of bookkeeper.
